PROJECTS

One of the major areas of interest in biology is the integration of class with the the community and environment. As a result the biology department has instigated various projects and independent studies with the community and environment.


Some of these independent studies and projects include:

The Drag River Project

...which is an indepth collaboration of the community with highschool students to rehabilitate and remediate the pollution and degradation of the drag river running through Haliburtion Highlands.

The Walleye Watch

...is a study on the walleye population in the Kashag chain as it relates to the population, temperature and spawning in head lake.

The ELM Project

...is a learning for grade 4 and 5 students. It provides a general basic look at the environment for young kids through activities and games that take place on the ELM trail behind HHSS.

The SunShip Earth Project

...this is the program which ELM was bases upon. It is program developed in the states that YMCA Wanakita has instigated as a week long learning session about the environment and our place in it. ECDCICA are the concept that are to be learned on the three trails at Wanakita.

The Fish Hatchery Project

...is collaboration of the community with highschool students to participate in the restocking of lakes in the Haliburton County area.

Biology Art

...Many students have decided to do their senior biology independent study by painting biology related art on to the walls of the biology room, to see some of their works click here.
