LCVI art classes work being displayed at the Kawartha Art Gallery

Several art classes at Lindsay Collegiate and Vocational Institute (LCVI) have been working hard over the past semester and it is paying off, with two exhibits currently being displayed at the Kawartha Art Gallery!

Grade 9 art class

My Landscape/Landskap is a virtual art exhibit, featuring work from Grade 9 students from LCVI and Grade 6 students from Rösjöskolan in Sollentuna, Sweden.

The collaboration formed between LCVI art teacher, Anders Widjedal, and Rösjöskolan teacher, Madelene Danielsson Egerfält, who went to university together. The pair worked together to design a project for both classes, focusing on landscape as an expression. Students were asked to photograph the local landscape with which they live and describe what makes it unique.

“Both schools had the same approach and questions about what landscape is. We had collaborated on the background material, and included art critique and analysis of artwork,” said Widjedal and Egerfält. “The students were exposed to works from both countries to contrast and compare. We examined the evolution of landscape painting traditions from the past to current trends.”

The Swedish part of the project was exhibited at Edsbergs Centrum from May 10 to 12.

Grade 12 art class

Expergefactor is an exhibit featuring the work of 12 students in the LCVI Grade 12 Advanced Placement Art Program.

Students were tasked with creating 20 pieces of art based around one theme over the course of two semesters. The in-person exhibit highlights a number of the wonderfully creative accomplishments of the students, as they investigated various mediums to find the best one for communicating their concepts.Learn more about the exhibit on the Kawartha Art Gallery’s website, or visit it in-person between May 4 and June 30.
