I.E. WELDON SECONDARY SCHOOL
OUR MISSION
CURIOSITY, INDUSTRY,
ENLIGHTENMENT
I. E. Weldon Secondary School is committed to an educational program through the combined efforts of students, parents, staff, and the community.
We believe that all students can learn in a safe
environment that nurtures, challenges, and enables individuals to achieve their
full potential. Students will develop
skills that allow them to function effectively as responsible citizens in a
global and technological society.
Moreover, it is our goal to instil in our students a taste for learning
and a curiosity about the world that will last a lifetime.
NATURE OF WELDON

Our school opened in 1971 with additions completed in 1985, 1995, and 2002. The school was named for a prominent local lawyer, Isaac Earnest Weldon, who left a generous bequest of money to the Victoria County Board of Education, with the stipulation that the interest generated annually would be divided amongst graduating students in the County advancing to post-secondary education. Both Mr. Weldon and the school have come to be highly regarded for a philanthropic spirit. Students and staff contribute generously to Plan International Canada, which supports children in developing countries around the world. Weldon currently sponsors 30 children through this program, ranking us as one of the top contributing schools in Canada. We routinely raise significant funds through the following events: The Terry Fox Run, United Way campaign, Hoops for Heart, and Big Bike for Heart and Stroke.
I.E. Weldon Secondary School prides itself on the commitment of staff towards the academic and extra-curricular
accomplishments of its
students. Diversified programs focussing
on academics, the arts, co-operative education, personal development and
technical studies meet the individual needs of students. We offer a full French Immersion
Program. Our International Baccalaureate Diploma
is a rigorous Grade 11 and 12 international curriculum involving six subject
areas. It provides highly motivated
students with the opportunity to develop skills that will lead to increased
success at university. The Practical, Academic and Life Skills (PALS) program
for developmentally delayed students provides many opportunities to develop
physical, social and employability skills.
Students in the area of Technical Studies are very active as they work
towards a trade through the Ontario Youth Apprenticeship Program. We also offer a Specialist High Skills Major
in construction, as well as a duel credit program with Fleming College in
Peterborough.
Extra-curricular programs provide
opportunities for students pursuing a diverse range of interests. In the school’s short history, we have
distinguished ourselves as participants at the local and provincial
levels. These accomplishments have
provided a basis for the on-going school spirit at Weldon –
